Val Gardena

Val Gardena (German Grödental, Ladin Gherdeina) lies in the Eastern part of South Tyrol. It starts in Laion (German: Lajen) and it ends at the Gardena Pass (Italian: Passo Gardena, German Grödnerjoch, Ladin Ju de Frara). It’s the most famous and best equipped valley in South Tyrol; it tops the British and German tourism ranks every year. The mountain resorts in Val Gardena are: Ortisei (German: Sankt Ulrich in Gröden, Ladin Urtijei), the most famous, Santa Cristina (German: Sankt Christina, Ladin Santa Crëstina), for family holidays and Selva di Val Gardena (German: Wolkenstein, Ladin Sëlva), the best choice for mountain sports fans. Of course Val Gardena is part of the famous “Dolomiti Superski” ski zone, which is a high quality brand in itself. Another Val Gardena attraction is its wood-carving tradition; it’s worth visiting a local professional carver’s atelier!
